Credits are just AI tokens

Let’s keep this simple. In Watsy, one credit equals one AI token. That’s it.

A token is the small unit of text an AI reads and writes. A short reply uses a few hundred tokens. A long, detailed one uses more. Your credits are the fuel that powers your agent’s thinking and answers.

You’re not paying in some made-up currency. Credits are tokens, counted as whole numbers. Nothing hidden.

Why per-token is fairer than per-message

Most tools charge you per message. That sounds simple, but it punishes you.

A one-word “Yes” costs the same as a full paragraph that solves a real problem. And every “Hi” your customer sends? Billed. It adds up fast, whether the message mattered or not.

Per-token is honest. You pay for the actual work your agent does:

  • A quick “We’re open till 6pm” costs almost nothing.
  • A detailed answer that walks a customer through your booking process costs a bit more — because it did more.

You pay for value delivered, not for the count of bubbles on a screen.

What uses credits

Credits are spent when your AI agent thinks and replies. That includes reading the customer’s message, pulling in the right Skill, and writing the answer.

What does not cost extra credits:

  • Your human team replying from the shared inbox.
  • Taking over a conversation yourself.
  • The customer’s incoming messages just sitting there.

In short: the AI working costs credits. People working doesn’t.

Some months are busier than others. If you run low, you can buy a top-up (a refill of extra credits) any time.

Here’s the part that saves you money: top-up credits are used first, before your monthly ones. So your refill never expires unused at the end of a cycle — it’s spent ahead of the credits that reset. Nothing wasted.

Think of it like a prepaid plan with a sensible twist: your add-on balance gets used before your included allowance.

Agency: bring your own AI gateway

On the Agency plan, you connect your own AI gateway. That means your AI usage isn’t metered by us — you bring your own keys and own the relationship with the AI provider directly.

For agencies running many clients, or anyone at serious scale, this is the unlimited path. You keep full control, and your AI runs without our per-token meter in the middle.
